The Twelve-Week Challenge: Day 31

Thirty-one days.  One calendar month.  If my calculations are correct, Day Zero of this challenge should fall on May 9th.  One month today.  It’s hard to believe that I am now two-thirds of the way through, but I am.  So what have I achieved so far with regards to the two main aims of this challenge: to complete my American Studies degree and to plan for the future?

One biggie on the first part is that I’ve handed in my dissertation.  After almost two years of working on it, it was finally handed in just over an hour before the deadline.  Considering that I’ve never handed anything in any earlier than 3:46pm, I did quite well to hit that 4pm deadline early.  With regards to my four outstanding essays, the Battle of the Sexes essay is coming along well with notes and quotes, but hasn’t got any formal structure yet.  With a deadline of 23rd April, a fortnight today, I should get cracking, because my essay on Kathryn Stockett’s The Help is due only two days later.

As you may have noticed, I’m a last-minute person.  Sometimes even an overdue person (like this blog).  Something I’ve struggled with the last few years is actually getting things done.  So for now, as long as they do get done, I’m not going to be too hard on myself for being late, because better late than not at all.  Being early or on time is something to practice once I’ve got this degree out of the way, and I’ve proved to myself I am capable of doing it.

With regards to the future, things are still a little uncertain, although when I think about it, I’ve made several big decisions about determining the course of my immediate future.  I decided against pursuing further study, here or abroad; I chose not to take the opportunity to work in America for the summer, and I have opted to make London my new home.  While I am still in the process of trying to do that, by applying for permanent jobs and investigating the temporary job market, I am headed on the path to my new home.  What I will achieve in the next 31 days is anybody’s guess, but I’d like to thank you for being along for the ride.
